Prakash is an experienced lawyer in commercial and marine law encompassing both advisory and advocacy work spanning a wide range of contractual, commodities, international trade, jurisdictional, maritime and shipping issues and associated areas and remedies including injunctions and ship arrests.

Prakash appears as lead counsel in both domestic and international commercial arbitration as well as in the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore.

Although his focus is on commercial and marine work, Prakash also does work on employment matters, insolvency matters, land/tenant disputes, personal injury and property damage claims.

On the non-contentious side of things, Prakash has advised parties on shipbuilding contracts, ship sale and purchase contracts and receivables purchase agreements.

The clients that Prakash advises include Bunker Suppliers, Cargo Owners, Charterers, Employers / Employees, Insurers / Insureds, Landlords / Tenants, P&I Clubs, Recovery Agents, Sellers / Buyers and Ship Brokers.

Highlight matters include:

  • Acted for a Buyer in 3 shipbuilding contracts in respect of one Subsea Support/Maintenance Vessel with a contract price of USD 35 million and two new Anchor Handling Supply Vessels with a contract price of USD 14 million per vessel and prepared revised terms.
  • Acted for a liquidator in a NOK 72 million claim in respect of transactions made at an undervalue for the purposes of a claw back.
  • Acted for a Claimant-Shipbroker in a Euro 7 million claim seeking damages for misrepresentation, inducing breach of contract and causing loss by unlawful means.
  • Acted for a debtor in negotiating a set off and instalment payment plan with creditors in respect of debts in the sum of USD 4 million and receivables payable to the debtor in the sum of USD 5 million.
  • Acted for a landlord in a RM 15 million claim for breach of a Tenancy Agreement and damage caused to the premises.
  • Acted for a Claimant in a USD 5 million claim for losses caused by a Singapore-based accredited domain name Registrar’s unlawful acts in interfering with the use of websites and domain names.
  • Represented a debtor (intermediate buyer and seller of bunkers) in negotiating a set-off and instalment payment plan with creditors in respect of debts worth USD 4 million and receivables payable to the debtor worth USD 5 million.
  • Acted for a purchaser in defending a USD 2.9 million claim made by a Bank alleging to be an assignee of debts owing to an insolvent seller.
  • Acted for cargo owners in a claim for damage to cargo valued at USD 2.9 million against a ship owner.
